Sleep & the Veteran Nervous System

Lesson 1 of 3

A nervous system stuck on watch

Downrange, staying alert kept you alive. The body learns that lesson well — sometimes too well, keeping the threat-detection system running long after the threat is gone.

That's why sleep is so often the first casualty: a body that won't stand down can't fall, or stay, asleep.

Takeaway

A threat system stuck "on" is why sleep is usually the first thing to break.
